9 Biggest Mistakes When Decorating Your Home During The Holidays

Preparing the home for the holidays is fun and exciting, so it’s understandable if you get carried away and go a little overboard. While it’s amusing to bring out every piece of festive decoration you have in storage, there should always be limitations. Unfortunately, most, if not all, of us have made these big mistakes while decorating our homes for the holidays. Pay close attention to this list and avoid making the same mistake twice:

9: Thinking It’s All Red And Green

It’s common to think that Christmas is all about the green and red theme, but that is an overdone color pairing. Don’t limit yourself to these two colors because they are out of style now. Get creative and use a different color palette, such as silver and gold.

8: Leaving The Lights On All Night

While it is tempting to show off your decorations all night, no one wants to see Christmas lights blinking while they’re trying to fall asleep. Plus, leaving the lights on is a waste of energy. Unplug them after dinner to save energy.

    7: Wrong Tree Placement

The tree should be the star of Christmas! Don’t make the mistake of hiding it in a corner or in an area where no one sees it. Make sure it is the center of attention as soon as someone walks into the room.

    6: Buying Low-Quality Decorations

Stop buying cheap decorations. They are a waste of money. Buy high-quality personalized Christmas ornaments and lights so you don’t have to replace them or put your safety at risk.

5: Throwing Decorations After One Use

Just because each Christmas there’s a theme to follow doesn’t mean you should get rid of all your ornaments. Reuse favorites such as personalized Christmas ornaments and neutral-colored decor year after year to save some money.

4: Only Decorating The Living Room

Don’t limit yourself to just the living room when decorating. Yes, it should be the main area but don’t forget to sprinkle a few festive trinkets in other rooms to spread the holiday cheer.

3: Too Many Things On The Lawn

It is entertaining to see Santa and his reindeer on the lawn, but it can also be tacky. Sometimes the only outdoor decor you need is a wreath on your door and some candles on the window.

    2: Removing Decorations Too Late

No one wants to see your Christmas decorations still hanging in February. Yes, the holidays are stressful and can be a hectic time, but it’s not an excuse to leave your decorations up for months. As soon as you get some free time after the holiday chaos, start removing the Christmas decor or risk being the pariah of the neighborhood.

    1: Overdoing It!

The biggest mistake of all is overdoing it. This mistake is easy to commit, especially if you love Christmas. If you have to unpack more than just a few boxes worth of decorations, you might need to step back and reevaluate. Don’t be so heavy-handed and find the balance between lackluster festive cheer and over-crowded Santa’s hut this year.
